CHAPTER THREE
BUILDING RESILIENCE FOR THE PERIOD AHEAD
GLOBAL PANDEMICS AND THE CHALLENGES OF DEFEATING COVID-19
The rapid transmission of COVID-19 has sharpened our focus on the risks of pandemics to the functioning of our society and will leave an impact for years to come. While New South Wales has been relatively successful in containing COVID-19, it continues to spread in many parts of the world, with Victoria’s experience highlighting the risk of a second wave occurring. Given this, what does a return to ‘normal’ potentially look like, and is zero transmission a realistic goal? During this session our speaker will discuss how the battle against COVID-19 is evolving globally, the potential for a vaccine to be successfully developed, and over what timeframes it could be feasibly distributed.
SPEAKER:
MARY-LOUISE MCLAWS, Professor of Epidemiology, University of NSW

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW | EVOLVING YOUR INVESTMENT PHILOSOPHY
While our investment philosophy is intended to be a stable set of principles against which we make decisions, its relevance and suitability can change over time. This is often a natural consequence of factors such as changes in our business, ability to implement certain approaches, client demographics, and what we see as our key strengths or competitive advantages. During this session we will discuss what are the tests to apply and key questions to ask
when reviewing our investment philosophy, sharing lessons learnt and issues to focus on.

A BRIDGE TOO FAR | LEADING OUR CLIENTS TO THE OTHER SIDE
In periods of significant uncertainty and change, the value of professional advice often become clearer to investors, who are looking for guidance and reassurance they are on the right path. As we position ourselves as their trusted advisers, how can we create and communicate a narrative that guides clients through market volatility? As practice leaders, what are they key attributes required to exercise resilient leadership? Our final session will explore these questions and provide ideas and inspiration for navigating our clients through this period.
